New Horizons School was founded in 1982. Jodie Edmiston bought the business and licensing in 2002. When the building was bought, is was used mainly as a preschool and Kindergarten until Jodie opened up the age requirements to expand the program to infants through school age childcare and early education. Since then, the school has served over 14,000 children. The school originally operated in two different facilities. In 2005, the current building was bought to make more space for the growing number of children and the facilities were combined. This new space provided enough room to house multiple classrooms and build three fenced in thre play yards.
New Horizons School currently works with Child Care Informational Services of Westmoreland County to provide services for all children and families financial needs. NHS also works with United Way to provide scholarships, when available. The school also works closely with Derry Area School District and Greater Latrobe School District to make sure all students are prepared as they transition from our program to public school.
Many of our families come to our facility due to referrals from previous clients, and we believe that's the best way.
